Three million civilians live under constant threat due to rising violence in Idlib and Aleppo
The Hague – July 4th, 2019. CARE Nederland, Stichting Vluchteling and World Vision will provide emergency aid within the cooperation of the Dutch Relief Aliance (DRA) in the Idlib and Aleppo regions in northwestern Syria. Three million civilians, including one million children, face the increase of violence and armed conflicts and are in urgent need of protection.
There is an acute shortage of basic necessities such as food, clean water and sanitation. Through the DRA, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately makes an extra budget of three million euros available for emergency aid in Syria.
The massive influx of displaced persons from other parts of Syria that has been going on since the beginning of the war in 2015 has doubled the size of the population in Idlib. Now, people have nowhere left to flee to. Houses, hospitals, schools and markets have been destroyed by the recent intensified fighting.
CARE Nederland, Stichting Vluchteling and World Vision will collaborate on hygiene, sanitation and health care and will provide protection. Girls and women are particularly vulnerable to exploitation and sexual violence. The organizations each contribute their own specific expertise and complement each other where necessary and they will work closely together with local organizations. CARE Nederland coordinates the effort. More than 100,000 people are expected to be helped within a maximum of 6 months.
