The past two years have seen a sharp deterioration in the security situation across Burkina Faso’s northern and eastern regions (large parts of the East, Central North, North, Sahel and Boucle du Mouhoun regions) due to the presence of non-state armed groups – many with cross-border ties to extremists groups or movements in neighboring Mali and Niger. Armed violence has caused massive population displacements, while civilians are increasingly targeted. The conflict and violence have led to the displacement of more than one million people in just two years and has left 3.5 million people in need of assistance. The Dutch Relief Alliance is offering emergency aid, which consists of offering basic necessities such as clean drinking water, primary health services, food assistance, and protection services for the most vulnerable, especially children. The Joint Response aims to provide 104.851 affected people with life-saving and life-sustaining goods and services. The DRA partners have designed their response based on needs and gaps in line with cluster recommendations, their technical expertise and complementarity with other interventions to maximize impact.
