AFGHANISTAN PROTRACTED JOINT RESPONSE

The significant events of the past year have substantially impacted the security and livelihoods of the people of Afghanistan. Overall the population is very vulnerable to insecurity and health problems. Food insecurity is increasing and access to clean drinking water and hygiene facilities has been interrupted in some places.

The Protracted Joint Response in Afghanistan will target communities and individuals with high needs and with specific vulnerabilities, such as women, the elderly, chronically ill people, and children.

In this JR, the Dutch Relief Alliance will focus on the following areas of work:

• Food security: The JR will help Afghans to meet their basic needs through the provision of food packets to vulnerable individuals, like IDPs and others.
• Livelihood support: The JR will provide inputs for livelihood support, including agricultural inputs & training, vocational training, and small enterprise development training.
• WASH: The DRA will distribute hygiene kits and promote hygiene awareness. The JR will construct and rehabilitate latrines and water points.
• Health care: The JR will rehabilitate health centers in Herat, Nangahar and Kandahar. DRA will also provide health care for children and pregnant women, SBGV treatment, and mental healthcare and psychosocial support for victims of violence and traumatized individuals.
• Multi-purpose cash: The JR will provide cash to families and individuals to meet basic needs, and provide cash for work.

The JR is planning to reach 171,760 people during the two year response.
