Duration: August 1, 2026 –

Myanmar continues to face one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises.

The country faces escalating multifront conflict, repeated waves of displacement, recurrent climate shocks and pervasive human rights and international humanitarian law violations, including grave violations against children, increased risks of GBV, including conflict-related sexual violence and risks of unexploded ordnance, all of which have intensified protection risks and deepened the humanitarian emergency.

More than 3.6 million people are displaced within the country, while access to healthcare, safe water, sanitation and protection services remains severely constrained in many conflict-affected areas.

The Dutch Relief Alliance Joint Response in Myanmar is led by Tearfund and implemented together with Save the Children, Stichting Vluchteling and World Vision. The response focuses on some of Myanmar’s most severely affected areas and aims to address urgent humanitarian needs through cash assistance, healthcare, water and sanitation support, and protection services. Most activities will be implemented through local partners with long-standing access to affected communities and extensive experience delivering humanitarian assistance. For security reasons, these partner organisations are not named in external communications.

To provide life-saving humanitarian assistance and protection to conflict-affected and displaced communities in Myanmar through cash assistance, health, water, sanitation and hygiene, and protection programming.

The Joint Response will deliver an integrated humanitarian response for conflict-affected and displaced communities. By combining cash assistance, healthcare, water, sanitation and hygiene support, and protection services, the programme will help vulnerable families meet their basic needs and reduce protection risks.

The activities carried out under this Joint Response are the following:

  • Cash assistance: More than 6,600 vulnerable households will receive multipurpose cash assistance, enabling them to meet their most urgent needs, including food, healthcare and essential household items. Emergency cash support will also be provided for urgent protection and health-related needs.
  • Health: Access to primary and secondary healthcare will be supported through community-based and mobile health services, referrals, maternal and child healthcare, mental health and psychosocial support, health promotion and disease prevention activities.
  • Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene: Communities will receive support to improve access to safe water, sanitation facilities and hygiene items. Hygiene promotion activities will help reduce the risk of disease outbreaks in displacement-affected communities.
  • Protection: Children, women and other vulnerable groups will receive protection support through case management, psychosocial support, cash for protection, awareness activities and referral services.

The Joint Response is planning to reach more than 52,000 people during this response.
